dog poop bags

Just thinking about it today while picking up poop by the road, heavy traffic and all … and walking the rest of the way home with my bag of presents. Made me laugh. :)

What is the proper way to dispose of my dogs’ waste from the yard?

dog waste bags

I know this is a weird question but it’s my first time owning dogs and I just am not sure if I should be putting my dogs’ waste into garbage bags in the garbage cans or should I put it into the green recycling cans with the yard wastes.

Are we REALLY ”a nation of animal lovers”?

That’s a quote that’s often bandied about… but is it true? When I think about how so many people mistreat animals , I wonder if we’re actually just a bunch of b@st@rds.

Recent cases: Cat tied up inside a pillowcase.. baby rabbit left to die in a plastic bag on waste ground… newborn puppies found wrapped in clingfilm, dumped and left to die… 5 week old hamsters found squashed… abandoned dog dies on fly tip… animal neglect cases ‘up by 78%’…

From the page: “Rabbits are the most abused domestic pet in England and Wales, with 35,000 abandoned every year and 70% of rabbits kept hutched 24 hours a day. Almost 40% had had no food, half had been living in filthy conditions. On average the abandoned pets it came across had been dumped after just three months… simply left in the street or released into the wild.”

Thanks trixi. What a stunningly original reply… *yawn*
Ice Evil: I did mean the UK… hence posting the question on Yahoo! UK Answers. :-) I thou8ght the BBC link made it obvious, but I’ll remember to put in more detail next time I post a question.

I agree that the media blows things out of proportion and focusses only on the negative. As for whether the statistics are correct or not: even if they’re not, animal abuse still goes on way too much.
“They are animals”. Hello?!! HUMANS ARE ANIMALS too!
Re: “Theres no time to think about the welfare of unintelligent animals when so many people all around the world have such s.h.i.t.t.y lives”

That, in my opinion, is a load of nonsense. Talk sense.

Of course human suffering is terrible and shouldn’t happen. Far too many people lead miserable and deprived lives because of the greed of others – I couldn’t agree with you more on that one. However, domesticated animals rely on us almost entirely. We domesticated them. We have a responsibility to them, especially as it’s we humans who are f***ing up the planet for every other species in existence. If we are the most intelligent life form on earth, we need to use that power resposibly.

How can I get my cat to eat her food?

dog waste bags

my mother bought cheap generic bran food. My cat refuses to eat it and will eat the dog food instead. We tried mixing the dog food with the cat food, but she just picks out the dog food and leaves the rest of the cat food. I don’t want to throw away a big bag of cat food. How can I get my cat to eat the cheap food? Should I just give it to my dogs so it doens’t get wasted?

dog poop bags

My neighbors let their two dogs outside every day and they run over to my yard to poop. I go around once a week and gather up all the poop in a bag and then hang it on their front door. Believe it or not, they haven’t picked up the hint! So I want to leave a few little treats in the back yard that will give them the poops. It’s either that, or I’m buying a bee-bee gun. Anyone want to suggest a nice “treat”?
Thanks for your recommendations! I think I will call animal control and have them handle the situation. Although, my neighbors have white carpet and the thought of them cleaning up poop makes me tingle inside. :)

Neighbor says to keep my dog off his grass?

dog waste bags

Yesterday, a neighbor at the end of my block stopped me and my dog as we were on our late night walk.

I walk him so he can do his business, so I walk him around the block at night, I always clean up after my dog, I have about a 3 month supply of waste bags ready at hand. There is 4 other dog owners and of those four, three don’t have their dogs on leashes, nor do they have collars and they let them run around outside loose.

Some of them, sometime are outside unsupervised, doing their business and no one picks it up.

I always walk my dog on a leash and pick up his waste.

So this man, who owns one of the dogs who runs outside without a leash and unsupervised, stopped me and night, he seemed halfway drunk, this is the second time he’s told me this, he said keep my dog off my yard, I was walking my dog in front of his house, his front yard is fenced, so I was walking him on the sidewalk and the other part of grass.

He walked after us and kept telling me, That I never pick up my dog’s waste and he didn’t want my dog on his property.

Can someone give me some advice on how to deal with this?
My dog has never caused any neighbors or people any trouble.

I live in Chicago, is it legal for him to set restrictions on sidewalks?
Btw, I also showed him the unused waste bag I had on me that night, and I showed to him so he would know that I do pick up after him. He continued to tell me to get off his sidewalk

dog poop bags

Here’s my problem: there are no public trash cans on my street and I live in the city. When I walk my dog, thus, I have to carry her poop bags back to my apartment building and use our trash can. I tie the bags really well and they are scented, but after a few day’s worth of poops, the can is simply disgusting and the odor is horrifying. Can anyone recommend a really good, strong air freshener? I’ve tried
1) baking soda (doesn’t work)
2) febreeze (only makes the poop smell like flowers)
3) bleaching the can between uses (that helps, but not much)
4) Lysol (again, same as Febreeze)

Should I try wood chips or something? Flushing it down the toilet is not an option, besides, the bags we use would still smell.
The joys of apartment living!
Thanks for any help you can give.
Thanks for the quick responses:
1) I am in an area of NYC where there are no dumpsters whatsoever. Nor are there trash cans for public use. A few of my neighbors have outdoor trash cans, but I would feel terribly rude leaving my poopy bags in their cans…
2) A diaper genie… interesting idea, do these really contain the smell?
3) unfortunately here we do “curb-side” trash pickup, so if I leave my garbage bags on a day when there is no pick-up, people throw cups, cans, cigarettes, etc on top of it and I get a fine from the sanitation department. I can’t dump trash more regularly than 2x a week.

See, apartment living is really crappy sometimes (no pun intended!!)

How can I control the flea problem I have without using more chemicals?

flea control

I have a 14 week Basset Hound and have already applied the Frontline flea control but it is not working. The poor thing is still covered in fleas. I am afraid to apply any more chemicals. Does any one have any natural or organic remedies I can try to use on the dog and to treat her play yard? I live in east Texas and I guess that the heat and humidity are a perfect breeding ground for fleas and mosquitoes……Help.
