We got this dog from a rescue he is a pitt lab mix and a very good dog but the owners before “were starving him” but they had another dog that was in great health. he is a big dog and they were making a 5 lb. bag of dog food last him a month.
When we first got him i had to hand feed him for the first few weeks.He was extremly picky about the type of dog food he ate and would like it one week and then wouldn’t touch it the next.We had to put him outside for the day and bring him in for the night because he would literally hold his pee and poop on walks and such just to race in the house and do it on the carpet.
Now he won’t touch any food at all and looks just like he did when we got him…you can see every rib and bone in his body.I have to bring him in and mix his food with anything handy wich has included leftovers , ranch dressing , marinades , canned beef , chicken broth , and we have mixed just about anything imnaginable just to get him to eat and just because it worked one day doesn’t mean it would work the next.Now he has gotten to the point where he is obbsessed with the cat food he will eat that all day long with no problems…I have taken him to the vet and he has a clean bill of health other than the great weight loss and the vet said i can’t just feed him cat food because it doesn’t have alot of the vitamins and nutrients that dogs need and get from dog food.I have even tried wet dog food wich he turns his nose up to also.I’m now begining to wonder weather the previous owners were starving him or weather he was doing the same to them.I’m at a loss of ideas here and a little frustrated with the situation…Once i find something that works i imediatly have to find something else.I have no idea what to do DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS???I’m all out of them
