Is this overstepping my bounds? See, my hometown has long been one where people had pooper scoopers or crap bags because there is a higher consciousness about that stuff. I have lived one town over for years and it’s blue-collar and all and I have rarely, if ever, seen anyone with a bag. They just let their dogs crap on other people’s lawns, which I think is rude, along with the SIDEWALK, which is unmentionable! And then I found out that rats’ #1 source of nourishment is DOOGY-DOO! EW!
I have asked a couple of times and in neither case did the person take offense, of which I was very happy. It was certainly not meant to interfere but just out of a sense of civic responsibility.
I personally feel that dog poop is very bad for the grass, given that dogs are carnivores. Think about it–why is cow and horse manure always used and not dogs’? THE LATTER ARE VEGETARIANS! Their manure is not acidic like carnivores’!
Julia: You make a good point. What I do is look at the dog as it is pooping and see if the owner has a bag in hand or is reaching for one. Never would I think of jumping the gun. Those people are being rude to you if they see the bag in your hand! Maybe they just don’t like other people’s dogs using their lawn as a toilet? I never could understand how it’s legal for people to go around and have their dogs even urinate on private property so if anyone out there has knowledge of laws on this, I’d be interested.
Argg: That is a novel idea! Good for you and it also educated people, which it is all about. Sometimes people others doing something and they think it’s okay and it just takes one person to set them straight!
